Why small business owners can’t ignore Management Liability insurance
May 7, 2026Elise Scheinecker, Account Broker
How did you get into the insurance broking industry?
After studying psychology and working as an assistant underwriter, I’d built up a solid grounding in the industry, so when Sam thought I’d make a good broker and the opportunity came up, it felt like a natural next step.
What is something about working in insurance that has surprised you?
That there really is insurance for anything you can think of. It sounds like a cliché until you’re actually in it; I once came across a filter category simply labelled “alpacas”, and it made me laugh, but it’s a genuine reminder that the possibilities are endless. Whatever your situation, there’s almost certainly a policy for it.
What do you like doing when you are not at work?
I tend to rotate through hobbies depending on what’s caught my attention: crochet, painting, baking, resin work, or reading. When I step away from all of that, you’ll usually find me spending time with my partner, often on the beach or out in the bush.
1) Favourite movie?
10 Things I Hate About You – though like Sam, it really does depend on my mood.
2) Favourite animal?
Cats. Tigers to tuxedos, I love them all.
3) Favourite food?
Gelato or cheese. I refuse to choose between the two.
4) Favourite holiday destination?
Hawaii, specifically Kona.
5) Favourite karaoke song?
“Tequila” by the Champs.
